The Cincinnati State women’s basketball team hosted the Special Olympics Hamilton County Gems women’s hoops team for a practice session on campus this past Sunday. Head coach Sonya Beeler and assistant coach Derek Williams had the Surge players and the Gems players go through warmups and pair up for stretches and then go into some practice drills. Coming off an undefeated week, the Cincinnati State men’s and women’s basketball teams will host Edison Community College on Wednesday.  The Surge men’s team, ranked No. 12 in latest National Junior College Athletic Association Division II poll, has won four straight games and six of its past seven. Six players scored in double figures as the Cincinnati State women’s basketball team topped visiting Lorain County Community College, 98-48, on Saturday afternoon. The Surge, which are tied for third place in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference standings, got 21 points from Kasia Cicha and 17 points and 12 rebounds from Jasmine Watson. Grover Anderson poured in 32 points and Cory Smith added 24 as the Cincinnati State men’s basketball team topped Lorain County Community College, 95-72, on Saturday afternoon. The Surge, ranked No. 13 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association Division II poll, improved to 20-5 this season. The Cincinnati State men’s basketball team held on for a nail-biting 75-74 victory over Sinclair Community College in Dayton on Wednesday night, giving head coach Andre Tate career win No. 200.  “Getting 200 wins is a product of having good players,” Tate said. “I’ve been here eight years as the head coach, and we’ve been getting 20-plus wins a season.
